When person is bleeding, it can be a very stressful event. Most habitancy will panic in such a case. It is important to remember to remain calm and in control in an emergency. 1) If you are going to be working on person who is losing blood, make sure you don’t expose yourself to infections such as hepatitis B and C, and Hiv. You need to be wearing a pair of sterile disposable glove. If you don’t have any gloves or can’t get to some, just use a towel and wrap it nearby your hands. Also, as an added precaution, make sure to wash your hands before and after helping the person.
2) The idea with administering first aid is whether stop the bleeding entirely or at least control it before help will come to your aid. You also want to help the private cope with any mount of blood already lost.
3) Make sure you dial 911. It doesn’t matter if you think the bleeding is microscopic and you might have it under control. Just make the call, or even better, get person else to make it. The next thing you want to do is to press on the wound hard, so you apply some pressure and try to control the flow of blood.
4) You by all means; of course don’t want to remove any pressure to the wound. This ordinarily happens when you try to look nearby and at the wound. Always, continue applying pressure.
5) You do need to try to find the pressure point. This is where the blood flow starts.
6) You also want to make sure you elevate the person’s body part above the heart level. So, if it is an arm, make sure you lift and raise the arm above the heart level.
7) Don’t use a tourniquet or belt to control the bleeding. You don’t want to stop the circulation.
You should use a dressing on the wound. The dressing needs to be clean and preferably sterile. Just wrap the cloth or dressing over the wound firmly, but not to tight as to stop circulation. If the cloth becomes soaked, don’t remove it, just wrap someone else piece of cloth on it. If you remove the soaked cloth, you might maybe cause the wound to bleed again and not allow any clot from forming. Remember, to not use bare hands on the wound. You could get the wound infected.
